What Happened to Magdalena Jung? Die Macht der Unschuld
What Happened to Magdalena Jung?
The “New German Film” was already dying when Christoph Schlingensief started to think about his love-hate-relationship with auteurism. Born in Oberhausen, where the legendary manifesto declared in 1962 that a “New German Film” would have to fight for better production, release policies, and critiques of moving images, he mostly saw how much of the rebellious spirit had turned into eclectic boredom. So he started the fight in his own way. WHAT HAPPENED TO MAGDALENA JUNG is a bizarre document of what happens if one really wants to “fly”.
