Volveréis

Ist sie ein Mythos oder gibt es sie wirklich: die Trennung im Guten? Filmemacherin Ale und Schauspieler Alex versuchen es. Sie wollen nach 14 Jahren Beziehung auseinandergehen und das Ende feiern – mit einer Party. Die Freunde sind perplex und hoffen, dass der Originaltitel des Films Wirklichkeit wird: „Du wirst zurückkehren!“ Das aber ist letztlich nicht der Punkt in dieser entspannt selbstironischen Anti-Rom-Com, in der Woody Allen mit Cary Grant durch die Madrider Boheme geistert, Ingmar-Bergman-Tarotkarten den Ton angeben und Ale nebenbei ihren neuen Film schneidet, der sich von dem, den wir sehen, bald kaum noch unterscheidet. “Volveréis” means “you’ll be back.” It’s almost a certainty. It’s also what the protagonists of this film of the same name hear about the party they throw to bid farewell to their love; the couple, a filmmaker and an actor, have been together for more than a decade and are now separating. “You’ll be back”; it sounds like an order too. Neither they, nor those around them find it easy to accept the finite nature of love; it’s equally hard to for the duo to accept a celebration of what they have shared, and embrace what is yet to come. The film unfolds in a new iteration of the same universe that Jonás Trueba has been building over the last years: the same team, on small shoots, in the streets he knows and walks, with themes plucked from everyday life. To this, he adds a healthy dose of cinematic meta-reflection (the film we see is the one made by the characters in the film) while also paying tribute to his family roots. The idea of celebrating divorces rather than weddings is a nod to Fernando Trueba, the Oscarwinning director, real life father of Jonás and the filmmaker’s father in the film too. VOLVERÉIS is a post-classic comedy about classic comedies, ephemeral, serious and funny all at the same time. (Gonzalo de Pedro)
