Quaintance realisiert Miniaturen an der Schwelle zwischen Home-Movie und kulturübergreifendem Stimmungsbild. Hier verlieren sich seine verrauschten Videobilder in einem jener Räume, in denen man einmal Zeit verbrachte, die man aber selten erinnert. Eine Deckenlampe, eine Zimmerpflanze, eine schlafende Katze und der Blick aus dem Fenster. Dazu melancholischer Jazz und ein paar Zooms. Im Archiv des Beiläufigen versteckt sich eine Essenz, die das Drama anderer Filme in Frage stellt. Was wenn das Leben aus diesen Bildern besteht? (Patrick Holzapfel)

Like SIXTH FORM ACID, this short forms part of Morgan Quaintance’s ongoing series MINIATURES, each dedicated to exploring “a single formal, conceptual or structural idea”, using “cheaper and handheld mediums” to allow a “quicker, more intuitive and playful approach to production”. The title pegs an address in Rotterdam, but these flashes of everyday impressions (set to cool jazz piano) of and from an interior spacewalls, corners, lights, plants, shadows, the trees outside, a cat – evoke sensations that belong to many times and places, in both the filmmaker’s biography and the spectator’s own.
