Noche de fuego

Provinz Guerrero, Mexiko. Das Treiben der Kartelle und der Milizen hat die Sozialstruktur des Dorfes lange schon zerstört; nur mehr Frauen und Kinder harren dort aus. Was aus den Jungs wird, ist klar, was aus den Mädchen wird ebenso. Sie müssen unsichtbar gemacht werden, um sie vor dem Verschwinden zu retten. So wachsen Ana und ihre Freundinnen unter dem Vorzeichen einer Bedrohung auf, die sie zunächst nicht verstehen und die ihnen später das Leben zur Hölle macht. In ihrem Spielfilmdebüt adaptiert die Dokumentar- filmerin Huezo einen Roman von Jennifer Clement aus dem Jahr 2014 und klagt ein Land an, das seit Jahrzehnten tatenlos einem Femizid zusieht. Tatiana Huezo builds her story, which has been adapted from a novel, around the experiences of Ana, a nine-year-old girl who lives with her mother in a rural area of Mexico where increasingly violent episodes are occurring with drug traffickers and the military is invading their community.
From the girl’s point of view, it is difficult to understand exactly what is happening. Terrible events are seen on TV, but Ana’s life continues, unaware of danger. But there’s a violence present even in the most casual exchanges between Ana and her friends. The idea of death invades their games and antics (Ana is given to crawl under the covers and hold her breath, her mother asks her to cut her hair very short for reasons she doesn’t understand, but we do), but their vision of danger is for them more indefinite, almost conceptual. When the girls become teenagers, the awareness of what can happen to them turns unbearable.
The film is a story of survival and imagination, about the possibility to escape from a circle of terror that runs through the women of the community, whether they are adults, adolescents or children. A circuit of violence that traps girls from a very young age and never lets them go. (Diego Lerer)
