Das Mädchen und die Spinne

Die wunderschöne Seltsamkeit betörender Übersiedlungen. So könnte man diesen eigentlich unbeschreiblichen Zürcher-Film beschreiben. In ihrem ersten gemeinsam realisierten Langfilm fahren die Zwillinge aus der Schweiz ein ganzes Arsenal an neurotischen und verletzlichen Figuren auf, die sich immerzu bewegen, begegnen und verpassen. Im selten vorhandenen Zentrum der eng kadrierten Blickstrukturen stehen Mara und Lisa, die bis dato eine Wohnung teilten. Nun aber zieht Lisa aus und das löst ein verträumtes, kluges, märchenhaftes und ambivalentes Hin und Her von Gefühlen und Sehnsüchten aus, die sich nie ganz erzählen und gerade deshalb berühren. Lisa and Mara were flatmates, but now Lisa is moving out. The move takes two days, first the final renovations in the new flat, then the packing up of possessions in the old one, a party in between. There are other people on hand alongside Mara and Lisa, helping out or passing by, Lisa’s mother, the handyman and his assistant, flatmates and neighbours old and new. They mill around in the two flats, their movements through the doorways and hallways precisely choreographed, only halted by the tight framings in which the camera captures them again and again: fleeting interaction, sudden release. They chit-chat, exchange anecdotes, flirt, and withdraw, each encounter exuding the same simmering blend of aggression and affection that also characterises Lisa and Mara’s relationship, its causes unexplained.
There are so many objects in these spaces that they feel like characters too, refracting the movements that flow around them, the motorcycle helmet, the dripping tap, the blue wig, the scar-like scratch on the counter, the bloodied plaster. When Mara was small, a spider would visit her every night, until one day it didn’t. If you traced out the comings and goings on a piece of paper, they’d look like its web, delicate, glittering, ephemeral. Until one day that was no longer there either. (James Lattimer)
