Eine cineastische Sensation: Der weltweit erste Stop-Motion-Trickfilm entstand 1901 in Chile! (Scherz?) Die Filmemacher danken dem NUMU in Santiago für die Überlassung des Materials (Satire?), das bei Grabungen 2023 (Ironie?) entdeckt wurde. Zu sehen ist, wie eine junge Frau mittels ritueller Beschwörung der Leichen zweier Politiker aus der Historie des Landes diesem die autoritäre Ordnung austreibt. Wie passend, dass dieser Fund in eine Zeit fällt, in der in Chile die Abstimmung über eine neue, demokratische Verfassung ansteht. (Tiefere Bedeutung!) (Barbara Kronsfoth)

Posing as a restored animation from 1901, this “ritual exorcism” performed by a certain Constanza Nordenflycht soon prophesizes the coming political nightmare of 20th century Chilean history. The faces of key conservative legislators (Diego Portales and Jaime Guzmán) become identifiable amidst the increasingly scary danse macabre of bones, organs, and body parts. Adapting the style of unearthly bricolage familiar from Jan Svankmajer and the Quay brothers, Cristóbal León and Joaquín Cociña strive to literally “undo” their country’s legacy of woe through meticulous work on each and every filmic frame.
