Irgendwann in der Zukunft teilen Licht und Finsternis das Leben für die Menschen. Wie moderne Vampire treten sie dann in den Schutz der Nacht hinaus, während sie sich tagsüber vor den starken Sonnenstrahlen zurückziehen. Und über allem wacht ein Konzern, der die Massen mit seinen virtuellen Bildern aus der Vergangenheit zu kontrollieren versucht ... Zu behaupten, Flickers erster Kinospielfilm sprühe vor Detailfreude und nahezu visionären Einfällen, wäre eine glatte Untertreibung: mit geringsten finanziellen Mitteln, aber größtmöglicher kreativer Energie inszeniert – so voller frischer Ideen, dass es für zehn Filme gereicht hätte. It’s 6 am in the Half World and the sirens are wailing. The streets empty quickly, windows are blacked out, people seek shelter underground. The sirens stop wailing. Silence. The sun rises over the dead city and fills the Half World with its lethal light. Twelve hours later: sunset, all-clear signals and life now returns to the city’s streets. Good night. This film depicts the various techniques people use to survive in an artificial world—love, action, sex and violence. A cultural melee emerges from the various languages spoken and different ways of life followed in the megacities of the Half World. Katz is a dealer and roams the city selling postcards of a natural world that was destroyed long ago. Herzog stands on the roof of his house every morning, armed with a chronograph, trying to pass through the sunrise. The “Whites” have monopolised the past and use old images of nature to produce electronic illusions for an invisible elite. The “Blacks” seize the “illusion machines” and manipulate them. And these two worlds come together in Sunny’s Day Bar. As David Rooney in The Hollywood Reporter put in the film’s release, “Florian Flicker’s grunge sci-fi HALBE WELT shows a fertile imagination running rings round a slender budget.” (Nada Torucar)
