Dear Doc

Zwiegespräche durch den Sucher der Videokamera. In DEAR DOC mischen sich auf dem Monitor, markiert vom Timecode, Bilder aus ROUTE ONE/USA mit beiläufigen Einblicken in die Produktion und Vertonung des Films sowie Material aus Kramers Umfeld. BERLIN 10/90 entstand aus der Aufgabe, eine Sequenzeinstellung von einer Stunde Länge herzustellen: Kramer ist in der Stadt, in der sein Vater 60 Jahre zuvor als Arzt arbeitete und seine Mutter am Bauhaus studierte: »Es konnte jedes beliebige Thema sein, an jedem beliebigen Ort der Welt. Ich war Gast des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD) in Berlin und mir schien das Ende des Kalten Krieges, der Zerfall der UdSSR, der Fall der Mauer und die Wiedervereinigung Deutschlands definitiv mehr als ein Sujet für einen solchen Zugang zu liefern. Und natürlich war da der Golfkrieg, der mit dem Film untrennbar verbunden ist.« (Volker Pantenburg)

Conversations through the video camera viewfinder. In DEAR DOC, images from ROUTE ONE/USA that still bear time codes intermingle on the monitor with casual glimpses of the production of the film and the creation of its score as well as with material from Kramer’s milieu. BERLIN 10/90 is the result of a brief Kramer received to film a one-hour sequence shot: he is in the city where his father worked as a doctor and his mother studied at the Bauhaus 60 years previously: “I was free to choose any topic, anywhere in the world. I was a guest of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in Berlin, and the end of the Cold War, the collapse of the USSR, the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification definitely seemed to me to provide more than one subject for such an approach. And of course there was the Gulf War, which is inextricably linked to the film.” (Volker Pantenburg)
