Seinen später verworfenen Plan, IL VANGELO SECONDO MATTEO in Palästina zu drehen, wollte Pier Paolo Pasolini 1963 vor Ort überprüfen. Andrei Ujică nimmt Ausschnitte aus Pasolinis dabei entstandener Recherche-Doku zum Sprungbrett für eine vieldeutige Anklage der Gegenwart. Reisemomente treffen in Ujicăs Found-Footage-Montage auf eine Brandrede des zornigen Jesus und Filmbilder höllischer Wellenberge (aus Dominique Pipats Atlantik-Dokus): „Ihr Schlangen und Otterngezücht!! Andrei Ujică interweaves two films by Pier Paolo Pasolini. IL VANGELO SECONDO MATTEO in 1964 generated excitement because he presented Jesus as a revolutionary in a Marxist sense. SOPRALUOGHI IN PALESTINA is about his trip to Israel in search of shooting locations. But Pasolini only found a country that had been consumed by economic progress. In a dramatic scene, Ujică condenses words from the Gospel into an image of rage: a tempest stirs up the sea, while Jesus warns of hypocrites and false prophets. The boisterous waves and the ocean foam evocate the ambivalent energy of Pasolini himself. (Gunnar Landsgesell)
