EXPLAINING THE LAW TO KWAME

What Is A Child?

What is a child? What is a child? The smell is sweet and clean,

Perhaps one day she’ll practice law and play the violin.

What is a child? What is a child? It’s really hard to tell.

A child is ever growing, but only for a spell.

Till when a child? Till when a child? Seven? Twelve? Fourteen?

When will it flip from plump and pink to wrinkled aubergine?

A child is happy promises of futures spread ahead,

A treasure box inside of which lies someone old, then dead.
