Born in Tokyo. SUGITA worked as an assistant director for films directed by Kiyoshi KUROSAWA, Shinji AOYAMA, Nobuhiro SUWA, and others. His third feature, "Haruharasan's Recorder" (2021) was screened at the FID Marseille (Grand Prix, The Best Acting Award, Audience Award), Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival (Rainer Werner Fassbinder Award Special Mention), San Sebastian International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Sao Paulo International Film Festival, Viennale, Belfort International Film Festival, Gothenburg International Film Festival, FICUNAM and others. KANATA NO UTA (2023) is his fourth future, premiered at the Giornate degli Autori and will be screened at the Busan International Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival.
