Heinz Emigholz was born in 1948 in Achim near Bremen. Since 1973 he has been active in Germany and the USA as a freelance filmmaker, visual artist, cameraman, author, publicist and producer. Many exhibitions, retrospectives, lectures and publications in Germany and abroad. In 1974 began the encyclopedic series of drawings The Basis of Make-Up, to which a major solo exhibition was devoted in 2007/08 at the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin. In 1978 he founded the production company Pym Films. In 1984, the beginning of the film series Photography and beyond. 1993 to 2013 he held the chair of Experimental Film Design at the Berlin University of the Arts. He is a co-founder of the Institute for Time-Based Media and the Art and Media program there. 2003 Start of the edition of his films on DVD (Filmgalerie 451).
