Born 1966 in Pekanbaru, Indonesia, is an Indonesian photographer, filmmaker and video artist. She studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunst, Amsterdam. Her works are shown in solo exhibitions in museums and galleries worldwide. In 2009 she will represent the Netherlands at the Venice Biennale, she will participate in Documenta 11, the Biennales of Sao Paolo and Istanbul and other international exhibitions. Her first feature film, HISTORY'S FUTURE (2016), was nominated for the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, her second feature film ASCENT (2016) celebrated its premiere at the Locarno Film Festival. Fiona Tan lives and works in Amsterdam.
