LEIBNIZ – CHRONICLE OF A LOST PAINTING
Edgar Reitz, born in 1932 in Morbach (Hunsrück), is a filmmaker, author, and co-founder of the New German Cinema (Oberhausen Group). After studying theatre studies and German literature in Munich, he directed feature films, documentaries, and experimental works such as MEALTIME (1967), CARDILLAC (1970), and TALES OF THE DUMP CHILD (1971). With the over 60-hour-long HEIMAT TRILOGY (1984–2004), he created one of the most significant cinematic epics of the 20th century. Reitz is also active as a university lecturer, author, and essayist. In 2022, his autobiography was published by Rowohlt. Most recently, he completed FILM HOUR 23 (2023) and LEIBNIZ – CHRONICLE OF A LOST PAINTING (2025), which premiered at the Berlinale.
