Andrina Mračnikar was born in 1981 in Hallein and grew up in Ljubljana and in Carinthia. She studied History of Art in Vienna and film directing at the AGRFT in Ljubljana, before studying Directing and Scriptwriting & Dramaturgy at the Vienna Film Academy from 2002 under Michael Haneke and Walter Wippersberg, completing both degrees with distinction in 2010. After winning several awards for her documentaries, her feature debut MA FOLIE was released in 2015, screening at numerous international festivals and winning, among others, the First Steps Award and an Austrian Film Award. In her award-winning documentaries ANDRI 1924-1944 (2003), DER KÄRNTNER SPRICHT DEUTSCH (2006) and VERSCHWINDEN (Audience Award, Diagonale 2022), Mračnikar has dealt with the history of the Slovenian ethnic group in Carinthia and the resistance of the Carinthian partisans. With her second feature MILA/MARIJA (2026), she makes the first feature film dedicated to this history of resistance: it follows 20-year-old Mila, who joins a partisan unit in 1943 and soon finds herself making decisions about life and death.
