Born in Rome in 1940. Since the sixites he has been working as a film critic and has been writing essays and books on the Italian and international cinema. From 1998 to 2002 he leaded the Cineteca Nazionale, from 2002 to 2009 he taught history of Italian cinema at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome.
