TALES OF THE WOUNDED LAND
Born in Babylon, Iraq, Fahdel is an Iraqi-French filmmaker, screenwriter, and film critic. He has lived in France since the age of 18, where he studied film at the Sorbonne. In 2002, he returned to Iraq for BACK TO BABYLON to find out what had become of his friends who had stayed behind. His second documentary, WE IRAQIS (2003), shows a country in a dramatic situation, shaken by omnipresent violence. In 2008, he made his first feature film, DAWN OF THE WORLD, a war film that shows the impact of the Gulf Wars on the region. In 2002/03, he made the multi-award-winning, wide-ranging documentary HOMELAND (IRAQ YEAR ZERO). It was not released until 2016.
