Born in Babylon, Iraq. Fahdel is an Iraqi-French filmmaker, screenwriter and film critic. He lived 18 years in France, where he studied film at the Sorbonne. In 2002, he returned to Iraq for BACK TO BABYLON to find out what became of his friends who stayed behind. His second documentary film WE IRAQIS (2003) shows a country in a dramatic situation, shaken by ubiquitous violence. In 2008 he realized his first feature film DAWN OF THE WORLD, a war film that shows the effects of wars in the gulf region. 2002/03 he realizes the multi-award winning, wide-ranging documentary HOMELAND (IRAQ YEAR ZERO), published in 2016.
