Demy’s first notable short, <![CDATA[<i>]]>Le Sabotier du Val de Loire<![CDATA[</i>]]> was the winner of the prize for best short film at the 1956 Berlin film festival. It explores the aftermath of World War II, but in an indirect manner, through the quotidian rituals of a simple seaside family — a look into the life of a family of clog-makers in France's Loire Valley.
