Príncipe de paz
Prince Of Peace
Following several accomplished shorts, Clemente Castor’s first feature is a silly and sad-toned hangout film that unfolds cyclically through several vignettes and multiple media formats, styles, and frames. PRINCIPE DE PAZ follows a group of Mexican teenagers through a mesmeric version of daily life, including trips to the doctor, fights, totemic discoveries, and threats to existence both vague and acute. Each scene marks a different kind of timelessness or aimlessness, and together these form so much more than another closely observed portrait of youth. There is a craft in the combination of sudden silences, textural surprises, and temporal shifts that brings everything together as a film without definite subjects but with a tone of gesturing objects. There is a sense that this specific time has been captured here as a concrete thought. (Rachael A. Rakes)
