LE PONT DES ARTS
Paris, 1980. Sarah is a singer in a baroque music quartet whilst Pascal is a somewhat lackadaisical student of literature at the Sorbonne. They do not know one another but they have one thing in common: both share their lives with people who love them yet do not understand them, a situation that makes them both melancholic. Sarah, however, finds an outlet in her absorption in singing Monteverdi, particularly his «Lamento della ninfa», which she records with a new musical ensemble whose conductor proves to be both cruel and malevolent. During the holiday period, Pascal listens to this record that someone has given him, and it pulls him out of his melancholic state. But such respite is short-lived; the young man, once again falling back into depression, abandons his studies and his girlfriend leaves him.
