MOMENTS CHOISIS DES HISTOIRE(S) DU CINéMA

Jean-Luc Godard
FRA 2004
84 min
V'07

Godard’s province is the 20th century as perceived through cinema and vice versa, both experienced and recapitulated through technology – that is to say, through video. Clips and soundtracks are examined and juxtaposed – partly through the ordinary operations of a video watcher (fast forward, slow motion, freeze frame, muting, and programming) and partly through more sophisticated techniques like editing, sound mixing, captioning, and superimposition. Histoire(s) du cinéma treats both the 20th century and the history of cinema as something that’s liquidated, finished. (Jonathan Rosenbaum)
