In a magnificent apartment on New York's Upper East Side, Brad and Abby Cairn celebrate the arrival of their second child, Lily, who joins their nine-year-old son Joshua. Joshua is far from being an ordinary little boy. Exceptionally intelligent and precocious, he has the manners of an angel and is a musical prodigy on the piano. Over the days, the young Lily continues to bawl loudly, provoking post-natal depression in Abby and aggravating Joshua's strange behaviour. As the family structure begins to slowly crumble, director George Ratliff darkens the tone, making the cavernous luxury apartment a hostile environment: In this cold and elegant setting the diabolical suddenly manifests itself.
