MONKEY WARFARE
Don McKellar and Tracy Wright, a real-life couple who are also two of the biggest stars in Canadian cinema, give career performances as Dan and Linda, a pair of left-wing ex-revolutionaries, in this wryly comic and refreshingly anti-establishment rant of a film. The two now content themselves to «living off the grid» by picking valuable objects from the garbage and reselling them over the Internet. Their perfectly cocooned existence seems shattered when their pot dealer is busted, but they quickly befriend Susan, a new-generation activist who, it so happens, has a regular supply of some really amazing organic herb. Tensions mount when Susan turns her seductive charms on Dan and tries to reactivate his anarchist ways, but a secret from their past makes Dan and Linda want to put a cap on Susan's budding revolutionary fervor even as it rapidly bursts into flames. Reginald Harkema keeps things moving along at a lively pace while dishing up a huge helping of cynical, provocative and intelligent humor. (Eric Moore)
