Every seventh person in the world is a Chinese peasant. Between 2002 and 2005 the filmmakers Elke Groen and Ina Ivanceanu did their research and filmed in three Chinese villages - without any censorship. The result is a documentary that offers a view of China beyond the big urban and industrial centers - a view of a life between socialism and market economy, in which villages become testing-grounds for democracy and self-determination.
