A woman narrates her own story and struggles against the lure of appearances: the main character of Japon: un pays lointain shares her life with a mannequin like those commonly found in store windows. Shot in Tokyo, this video seeks to portray one particular form of refusal of Japanese social norms. Through this specific case, the film outlines a number of possible inroads into the situation of women in Japan. Indeed, one can find in the most extreme cases telling illustrations of how social pressure is excerpted, that is said to insure the cohesion of the social group.
