For one whole summer, Böttcher and his director of photography watched stone sculptors at work in the Lohmgrund Valley. Böttcher, who has made so many films about work and working people, shows that producing art is also hard work. He attempts to trace the mysterious process of turning this daily work into art, which seems intangible. In the end, though, when the statue is finished, the miracle has happened once again.
