After her release from a psychiatric hospital, 24-year-old Karen tries to lead a normal life again. Her friend, Ben, has used the opportunity to have his ex-girlfriend move into their flat, and he ruthlessly capitalises on her attempts to do everything as she should. Humiliated by the experience, she decides to become someone else by attempting to adopt the identity of a chance acquaintance. This aim culminates in tragedy.
