LES HOMMES QUI FONT LA PLUIE (YENENDI)

Jean Rouch

Yenendi is the name of the privileged few allowed to conduct the lavish and central ritual, which annually introduces the rain season. Rouch chose the songs for the soundtrack with the care of a lover, and he added the voice-over, spoken by himself, later: A fundamental part of his cinematographic concept was to strive for the role of a Griot, an African story-teller, with a dramatic intonation.
