GOD RESPECTS US WHEN WE WORK, BUT LOVES US WHEN WE DANCE

Les Blank and Skip Gerson record the first Los Angles love-in (Easter Sunday 1967, Griffith Park). One might think there would be hundreds of movies like this made during the 1960s, but there are only a few. The young film-makers of the time were a pretentious lot; they hadn't yet got the news about the death of the author. Les Blank was the rare exception. He was content to document this celebration as a participant might have done it, giving his movie just enough sense of form to hold together. The film is too long, but it had to be to honor the spirit of the occasion. Does God love the Hell's Angels when they dance? Or are their spasmodic gyrations really dancing?

This film is screened together with <filmlink id=\"2806\">The Wild Angels</filmlink>.
