A espada e a rosa is a philosophisizing moral parable about Manuel, a young tidiness obsessive who, after leaving his cat Maradona with a friend, decides to board a 15thcentury boat with some friends to live the life of a pirate. But treason onboard unfortunately triggers a series of terrible events that our protagonist overcomes while keeping his moral principles intact. A espada e a rosa by young Portuguese filmmaker João Nicolau is a provoking comedy referring to such big themes as freedom, music, love, and drugs.
