CROSSING THE BRIDGE - THE SOUND OF ISTANBUL
Five years after making Wir haben vergessen zurückzukehren, Fatih Akin revisits the documentary genre to portray the daily life, rich with musical and cultural wealth, of the inhabitants of Istanbul, the great metropolis located at the crossroads between Orient and Occident. Crossing the Bridge is a documentary about musical, cultural and every-day life. One of the main personalities on screen is musician and composer Alexander Hacke, a veteran of the German avant-garde music scene, who arrives in Istanbul to meet the members of the neo-psychedelic band Baba Zula. With their guidance, he succeeds in assembling a collage of Istanbuls musical diversity.
