Kawase Naomi was born into a world where her parents were absent. Her mother’s aunt and uncle had no children, and soon after her birth the child was placed in their care. At ten, she was adopted and became their daughter. As listed in the family register, her father and mother were already 65 at this time. Four years later, her beloved foster father Kenichi passed away. The artist, then fourteen, had no recourse but to begin living as a family of two with her foster mother, who had no source of income. This is the story of the artist’s close observation of the end of the life of her foster mother, who had turned 95. Following her mother’s daily life as she lives out her time, steadily approaching death, the artist contemplates deeply the fundamental themes of her own film productions.
