In <i>Seasons of Blood and Hope</i> we meet Serbs and Albanians from Kosovo. We follow people from both sides of the conflict, all of whom used to live in Kosovo at the start, but due to the events had to flee to Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and to different European countries. The shooting of the film started in November 1998 and was supposed to cover the rebuilding of the country after the Serbian attacks against the UCK. However, the situation took a different turn, and Johansson and his team stayed on until the end of 1999. What interested Johansson most was to describe the sheer willpower of the victims, how they overcome the shock of war and then go on to create a new way of living.
