From Pasolini to Jean Genet, Sophocles «Oedipus» to Freuds theory of the negative Oedipus, kimonoed drag queens to club-toting student radicals: Such dizzying, rather dissimilar coordinates provided Matsumoto with the building blocks for his parodic, aesthetically disturbing deconstruction of both national growth and conventional, oppositional politics found in his 1969 <i>Bara no sôretsu</i>. Its title is a reference to «Pompes funèbres»
