As the US Army sinks deeper into the Vietnam War, attempting to dig out the Vietcong from an impenetrable jungle, one officer, Captain Willard, is sent on a mission by the Special Forces to locate and liquidate Colonel Kurtz, an ex-Green Beret who cruelly rules over a primitive mountain people, trenched in at the Cambodian border. The new version adds 53 minutes of chilling scenes stored away in boxes for 22 years, stretching the feature to a mammoth three hours 17 minutes. «The themes emerge more clearly and the film is funnier, sexier, more romantic, more political, and more bizarre, with historical perspective», Coppola said when the project was announced.
