Valley Pride

In the tradition of Nikolaus Geyrhalter and Andreas Gursky, Lukas Marxt’s VALLEY PRIDE is a panoramic document of human labour and its relationship to landscape. Marxt films field workers picking lettuce in the Coachella and Imperial Valley regions of southern California, observing their efforts in a series of highly formalised pans and aerials. With a thrumming electronic soundtrack by Jung an Tagen, VALLEY PRIDE considers the interface between human bodies and mechanisation, where both workers and the land are subjugated for the never-ending extraction of profit.
