Un sueño como de colores

Valeria Sarmiento’s debut film broke with the intensely politicised focus of the New Chilean Cinema by exploring a seemingly peripheral subject; the difcult lives of women strippers, workers not typically associated with the Unidad Popular. This short work immediately announced Sarmiento as a bold stylist and feminist activist resistant to the pull of contemporary trends. Shot before the coup by legendary cinematographer Jorge Müller, the footage was thought lost until 2021 when it was rediscovered and finally edited by Sarmiento. (Haden Guest)
