Trouble

Stuck indoors during the pandemic, London-based artist Miranda Pennell looks at aerial shots from the early 20th century taken by British military surveillance cameras in Egypt and Iraq. After excavating tombs there, the British archaeologists responsible were apparently cursed; as the aerial images engross her, Pennell sees cracks on her apartment walls as possible signs of hauntings. The two worlds appear to overlap when she prints out and pastes the archival photographs onto her walls. Echoing her previous short STRANGE OBJECTS, TROUBLE explores the uncanny power of images to convey more than what is shown. (Julian Ross)
