Syzygy

Akbar Padamsee’s SYZYGY is a stop-motion animation composed of 1000 drawings. This fascinating work is based on a series of distinct visual patterns—numbers, letters, lines, dots, geometrical shapes, dashes—that are transformed according to diferent mathematical operations. One of India’s most important modern painters, Padamsee made the film in collaboration with animator Ram Mohan. The result is a breathtaking parade of appearances and disappearances, a mixture of abstraction and figuration: the product of a code for programming forms. (Cristina Álvarez López)
