Built by a Yugoslavian construction company, the Lagos Trade Fair Complex was completed in 1977. The five-building complex was intended to hold conferences and summits for African diplomacy. But only ten years later the facility was already abandoned, before it was gradually repurposed by the surrounding communities. PROJEKT documents this facility’s present state, alluding to the historical, social, personal and ideological tensions that underpin it across four shifting parts that draw on different formats and image textures. Architecture here is something resolutely political—a building is never just a building. (Salvador Amores)
