Palomita blanca

With the film adaptation of the Chilean bestseller of the same name, some in the Socialist Party sought to make money for the revolution. At least, that's how Ruiz himself reports it, but he then vigorously brushed against the grain of the novel he had been given. The Romeo-and-Juliet story about a poor half-orphan and a rebellious bourgeois son became a sarcastic panorama of Chilean society playing with stylistic conventions of the telenovela. The negatives of the film, which had been finalised only weeks before the coup, disappeared in a closet until 1992, while a making-of avant la lettre has unfortunately been lost to this day.
