Nous disons révolution

With this film, a response to a Centre Pompidou commission for a short film which eventually took on the proportions of a feature, Nicolas Klotz and Elisabeth Perceval overhauled their working methods. Now installed in Normandy, they relocated their practice to the editing table, which became, in their own words, a new film set of sorts. Drawing on a vast array of footage collected over the years and organized into four chapters entitled “Races”, which take us on a journey from Brazzaville to Barcelona and São Paulo, NOUS DISONS RÉVOLUTION is a trans-historical epic dealing with slavery, exile and the sixth extinction. Starting with a loose rendition of The Red Leaves, William Faulkner’s short story about a slave who flees after his master’s death requires he be buried beside him, the film is a poetic celebration of the forms of life invented in the cracks of colonialism, as well as a tribute to cinema itself, each akin to an original fire and a desire to remain ungovernable. As discreet wonders and near-fantastical creatures appear, words borrowed from Paul B. Preciado’s Un appartement sur Uranus resonate in the face of neo-liberal doctrine: “They say crisis.
