like moths to light
First capitalism wanted to keep us awake, because sleep doesn’t generate income. Now its objective is different: turning what’s most private—our thoughts and dreams—into a commodity. LIKE MOTHS TO LIGHT traces the future history of surveillance capitalism based on a hypothetical business aimed at selling our dreams: dreams converted into data, and data into money. Starting from the story of an old amusement park called Dreamland, which burned down in an orgy of light, Gala Hernández López reflects on our dangerous obsession with seeing and trading everything.
