Joan Baez - I Am a Noise

Joan Baez is a defining figure in the music of the 20th century. Her unique voice and ethereal presence gave expression to the uprisings of 1968, the peace demonstrations during the Vietnam War and the civil rights marches of the 1970s. She embodied the United States’ search for a moral compass with grace and with an energy that stems from her music and her sense of justice. Against this political backdrop, JOAN BAEZ – I AM A NOISE retraces the unique stations of an illustrious career while following the singer on her farewell tour. The intimate access granted to the directors gives us the privilege of entering into the everyday life of an icon who is now preparing to retire. Her vocal exercises, rehearsals, touring routines are all shot from up close, reinforcing the feeling of being right there with her. But if these are the tropes of every rock star biography, Baez’s natural attitude emerges unfiltered nonetheless, revealing a fragility otherwise hard to imagine in an artist who has fought so many battles. Baez’s incredible generosity and elegance shine forth on the screen in every frame and allow us to join her on the final stages of a journey where creativity and disquiet have gone hand in hand.
