The daughter of an Italian baron in the early 16th century, Isabella Morra died at the hands of her brothers after living in isolation for years. Later, she gained recognition as a well-known Renaissance poet after her sonnets and songs were published. With this as her inspiration, Pagliai sets her narrative around a children’s home in Boulogne-surMer. The roughness of the stories and expressions of the young, left alone protagonists together with the murmurs and glances captured by a camera clear as their thoughts forge a poetic connection with that distant historical figure.
