HABĀ
A young woman named Sahar speaks on the phone about fearing for her life. We listen to her voice but never see her body—the call is abruptly cut of. Helin Çelik’s HABĀ begins as an investigation of Sahar’s disappearance and develops into a hauntingly poetic essay about the tragic destiny shared by victims of femicide. Mixing extracts of conversations, archival footage from an Egyptian film and black-and-white landscapes traversed by the filmmaker, HABĀ conjures up the ghosts of structural violence that inhabit spaces of trauma.
