Going Home

On a visit home, Kamal Aljafari films the television screen in his family’s domestic space. The texture of the image won’t let us forget: pictures of Gaza are a cheap global currency. We see an urban landscape almost levelled. People handing out blankets, an act verging on surreal in a place where there seems to be nowhere to lie but rubble. Gestures of care, tenderness and humour. A haunting record of the filmmaker returning to his roots, the film renders the incredible resistance of Palestinian people most forcefully by showing them staying put, a steadfast refusal to leave home. This film will be shown as part of the screening Constant Returns.
