Eternity
In German director Susanne Regina Meures’s fourth feature-length work, naked women speed to a glacier in racing cars. What follows is part contemporary art bacchanalia and part extreme environment endurance ritual, involving a paintball battle, the discovery and transportation of a crucifix, night-time labour with pickaxes, chainsaws and flamethrowers, and a hyperstylised ice-cavern rave meets sex party, complete with piercings and body suspension. The aftermath entails purging in day-glo colours and bodies collapsing on the ice. In a final shot lasting more than six minutes, the camera draws back to reveal the full extent of the glacier, before being pulled forward again to drift over the landscape. ETERNITY showcases the work of choreographer and artist Florentina Holzinger, whose performance installation Seaworld Venice for the Austrian Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale embodies the same high-production presentation of the female body, fetish culture, body-horror provocation and operatic excess. The interest in the extremes of rave culture appeared in Meures’s earlier film RAVING IRAN (2016), yet here the tone is fully eschatological: the opening monologue is spoken by none other than God herself.
