Break no. 1 & Break no. 2

Award-winning artist filmmaker Lei Lei continues his practice of unearthing forgotten, deliberately erased or imagined memories. This formally compelling film encourages a disparate array of found photographs and video clips from the distant past to tell us a story, as Lei curates a curious mix of 1960s light fixtures, hotel rooms, erotic film posters, mass gatherings and historic moments of political oppression. Embellished with elliptic subtitles and a characteristically rhythmic soundtrack, BREAK NO. 1 & BREAK NO. 2 is a delightfully ambiguous work of film montage. (Hyun Jin Cho)
