BOI NEON
Gabriel Mascaro (Brasil/Uruguay/NL 2015)
In wonderful Cinemascope this is one of the great, even erotic surprises of this movie year: Iremar works at the “Vaquejadas”, a rodeo in the North East of Brazil where two men on horseback try to bring down a bull by grabbing its tail. Home is the truck used to transport the animals from show to show which he shares with his coworkers; Galega, an exotic dancer, truck driver and mother to her spirited and cheeky daughter Cacá, and Zé, his rotund compadre in the bull pen. Together they form a makeshift but close-knit family.

CENSORED VOICES
Mor Loushy (Israel/Germany 2015)
The 1967 “Six-Day” war ended with Israel’s decisive victory. One week after the war, a group of young kibbutzniks, led by author Amos Oz, recorded intimate conversations with soldiers returning from the battlefield. The recording revealed an honest look at the moment Israel turned from David to Goliath. CENSORED VOICES reveals the original recordings for the first time.

SHAN HE GU REN
Jia Zhangke (China/Japan/F 2015)
His films are regularly shown at the Viennale. Filmmaker Jia, deals with the gap between rich and poor in China of the Nouveaux Riches, weaves the past, present and future in a melodramatic large painting that splendidly shines in rich colors. The raging economic and social change is seen as part of that force which always wants the good but turns into evil.
